Our Club does not hold meetings during the months of December, or June, July and August.

Thursday, November 19th, 2009, 7:00 p.m.

Richard and Nancy Neel, owners of Sunny Sprouts Greenhouse will present the program, "Bonsai Plants".  Bonsai plants will be available for sale to the membership.

Thursday, March 25th, 2010, 7:00 p.m.

Penn State Master Gardener Carol Chernegam will present the program "How to Create An English Garden".

Penn State Master Gardeners Dolly Queer and Bev Huber presented the delightful program "Gardening With Children" for our first meeting for the year.  They shared many great ideas and stories with the group.

Jamye Timms, the former owner of Petals 'n Ponds, presented the program "Adding Water to Your Garden Without Using a Backhoe". She demonstrated simple fixes to add a water element to your garden.  Jamye has worked in the Horticulture/ Floriculture field for 27 years, along with the aquaculture field for the last 8 years.

Rebecca Griffith from Shadowwood Gardens presented the program "Herb Gardening" at the March 26th meeting.  Club members Dolores Wiltrout and Nancy Vrable were the evening's hostesses.

Our November meeting was cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.  Club members have been asked to bring their monthly paper product donations for the Food Bank to the Christmas party on December 4th.

 

Thursday, October 23, 2008   

Club Members, Pam Naples and Debi Kollar presented the program "Decorating Your Table For Fall", demonstrating low cost and easy ways to decorate for the fall holiday season using "found" items from your home and garden and inexpensive seasonal items.   A pamphlet containing instructions for fall decorating ideas and a handout on pressing and preserving fall leaves were provided to everyone attending the program.  Club members Carol Martz and Jackie Whipkey were the evening's hostesses providing a wonderful fall buffet with delicious soups, munchies and sweets.

Our September Meeting 

For our first meeting back after the summer break, Linda Hyatt, Penn State Master Gardener Coordinator for Westmoreland County presented an entertaining and informative program on the "Common Plant Diseases in Landscaping" at the September 25th meeting.   Using actual examples of diseased plants, she taught us how to identify damage caused by common diseases, such as powdery mildew, early blight and septoria leaf spot on tomatoes, cytospora canker of spruce, Verticillium wilt and clematis wilt, and provided information on prevention and treatment.  A big thank you  to the evening's hostesses, Club members Shirley Stoltz and Larue Gray, for providing a fabulous selection of snacks and sweets!

Our May Meeting

Our last meeting before our summer break was held Thursday, May 22nd at 7:00 P.M.  The meeting began with the program "A Demonstration of Basic Cake Decorating" presented by Mary Clark.   Mary has been   teaching Wilton cake decorating for many years and her program was entertaining and very informative.  Club Members Nancy Vrable and Flo Shimchick were the evening's hostesses and provided a wonderful assortment of homemade goodies.

Our March Meeting                                                                                                              Our first meeting after the winter break was held Thursday, March 27th at 7:00 P.M.   The meeting began with the program "Creating a Home Greenhouse as a Hobby" presented by Penn State Master Gardener Mary Lawrence.  Mary's program was full of helpful "Do's and Don'ts" for anyone interested in building or purchasing a home greenhouse and her  enthusiasm for the subject was infectious.  Club Members Debi Kollar and Pam Naples provided an array of wonderful refreshments as the evening's hostesses.
