Mayfest 2010

Dry Ridge Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Saturday, May 1st from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., once again our Club held its annual Mayfest, selling plants from the Club Members' gardens, as well as baked good and flea market items,  to raise the money that we donate each year to local community charities.   This year we had beautiful weather and we had a hugely successful sale!  Delicious baked goods made by the Club Members, great flea market items and a wonderful and inexpensive lunch featuring homemade soup and hotdogs & sauerkraut rounded out the day. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support our Club's sale.  We truly appreciate it!

Proceeds from the sale are donated to local community charities, such as the Westmoreland County Food Bank, the Salvation Army, a local fire department, the American Cancer Society and many others each year.

This year's raffle items were once again wonderful.  A huge thank you goes to Jim Martz, husband of Club Member Carol Martz, who handmade another fantastic wooden bench which was this year's first place prize.  Thank you, Jim!   A huge thank you goes to the Club Officers and Members  for all their hard work securing the prizes for this year's drawing.

For the past several years as part of the event we have included a Children's Activity & Education Corner that is free to children attending the sale.  Our theme this year was "All About Butterflies" and the children made a beautiful butterfly from tissue paper and a clothespin while learning about butterflies native to our area.   They also received a booklet "All About Butterflies" created by Club Member Debi Kollar and a treat after completing their project. 27 children joined us for the activity this year.

In keeping with this year's theme, the Children's Corner's prize drawing was a very cute butterfly shaped garden tote complete with tools and seed packets!
