Dry Ridge Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale
Saturday, May 2nd, 2009
Saturday, May 2nd from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., our Club held its annual Mayfest, selling plants from the Club Members' gardens, as well as baked good and flea market items, to raise the money that we donate each year to local community charities. The day dawned grey with the threat of rain, but the rain held off and we had a successful sale! Delicious baked goods made by the Club Members, great flea market items and a wonderful and inexpensive lunch featuring homemade soup, pepperoni rolls and hotdogs & sauerkraut rounded out the day. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support our Club's sale. We truly appreciate it! Proceeds from the sale are donated to local community charities each year. This year's raffle items were once again wonderful. A huge thank you goes to Jim Martz, husband of Club Member Carol Martz, who handmade the fantastic wooden bench shown in the picture below which was this year's first place prize. Thank you, Jim! A big thank you also goes to Club Member Pam Naples for painting the beautiful herb pot, and also to Coleen Guest, Club President and Marlene O'Brien, Club Vice-President for all their hard work securing the prizes for this year's drawing. This year's Raffle Ticket Items: Handmade Wooden Bench, 3 Tiered Planter, Handpainted Pot & Saucer Planted with Herbs & Garden Angel For the past several years as part of the event we have included a Children's Activity & Education Corner that is free to children attending the sale. Our theme this year was "Be A Planet Protector" and the children made and planted a garden pot using a recycled 2 liter soda pop bottle. They also made a garden marker and planted the pot with their choice of zinnia or green bean seeds. This year was the most successful to date with 26 children joining us to learn about gardening & helping the planet! Once each child finished their project, they received a homemade treat - the pudding dessert "Dirt"- complete with gummy worms! And this year the Children's Corner had their very own prize drawing! A Puppy Dog Planter made from a recycled apple juice bottle and scraps of PVC pipe and craft foam planted with Pineapple Sage and Pineapple Mint made by Club Member Debi Kollar. Our very happy winner of the Puppy Dog Planter, Madison Raviart and her mom, Kim |
